These photos were particularly hard to post on this site, since they were all the photos we took prior to Ava’s diagnosis in June 2006. They represent a much more carefree time for us; and some dreams lost:
Ava thru April/May 2006
Ava – February 2006
Ava – Christmas 2005
Ava – August 2005

Lord, please bless this child with a cure.

Thanks Inge! And you’re right, that little smile is infectious. We can’t help but smile back at her. It’s those little grins that help keep Anja and I smiling right now. Take care.

Ava,we like your photos. Ava is a very lucky child. She was born to parents that love her so much. If anybody can find a cure for Ava it will be you and Anja with all the love you have for Ava. We thinke about you all the time. We love you and pray for you.

Anja, thanks for the sweet words and the prayers! Ava’s still doing OK and will be seeing her neurologist at Children’s Hospital this Friday. We’re going to discuss with him what we’ve learned about the Hopkins’ medicine trial and the one at Stanford. Obviously each university researcher is dedicated to their study and medicine, and we’re hoping the Children’s Hospital neurologist can play the role of an “honest third broker” and help us make a decision between the two.

Hi all. Ava–I hope you continue to improve, and the doctors treat you well. Anya and Randy–I pray for strength for the both of you. We’re doing a fundraiser for SMA research, and we’ll definitely be thinking of Ava.
Every day I hope for a cure. Everyday I think of how thankful we are that things aren’t worse, and everyday I cry when I hear of the toll SMA takes on families.
I’m here if you need to talk.

I see the lovely photo of Ava (and Anja) in the Munich beer garden – but where is Randy? Oh – is that him under the table to the left? (just kidding Randall)
